My husband hooked up with his company's intern, and for a thrill, he hid her in a massive suitcase and brought her into our apartment. Waking up thirsty in the middle of the night, I stumbled upon their affair. When I confronted them, my husband "accidentally" shoved me out the window. I fell twelve stories and died on the spot. He then took my inheritance and married the intern. When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the very day my husband dragged that suitcase through the front door. "This is filled with hazardous materials from the lab. It's incredibly dangerous. Whatever you do, do not touch it!" I nodded, then turned around and threw the suitcase into a junk removal truck the moment he left. The sanitation worker asked, "What's in here? It's heavy as hell." I raised an eyebrow. "Hazardous waste. Just incinerate it completely." ... Chapter 1 1 Seeing Carter drag that familiar, oversized suitcase inside, I realized I had been given a second chance at life. Before I could even speak, Carter barked a warning: "Whatever you do, do not touch this suitcase." In my past life, when he said that, I didn't ask questions. I just assumed it was equipment for his job. Now, looking at this ridiculously large piece of luggage, I felt sick at my own past naivety. That intern, Skyler, was inside it right now. My fingernails dug into my palms, leaving crescent indentations, but I forced a smile. "Why can't I touch it? What's in there?" As I spoke, I reached out to "help" him pull the handle. Carter violently swatted my hand away, his tone dripping with impatience. "Did you not hear me? Don't touch it!" "It's full of toxic materials. If it's exposed to light, it'll release lethal fumes. You breathe it in, and you're dead!" "I'll take it to a disposal site later. Just mind your own business." Hazardous materials? You can say that again. I was sneering on the inside, but I made sure my face twisted into a mask of pure terror as I backed away. "Why would you bring something so dangerous into our home? What if it leaks?" Seeing that I had bought his lie, a smug look washed over Carter's face. "Relax, I know exactly how to take care of it." "Just leave it to me." He deliberately emphasized the words "take care of," and subtly nudged the suitcase with his foot. The suitcase shivered slightly against the hardwood floor, as if someone inside was fighting back a fit of giggles. My eyes instantly turned ice-cold. Sneaking a mistress into the house inside a suitcase for a thrill—they were using my home, and my existence, as part of their sick fetish. The phantom pain of my bones shattering against the pavement ripped through my entire body. I looked up and met Carter's eyes. "Well, you make sure you take good care of it." Carter let out his first genuine laugh since walking through the door, whistling a tune as he wheeled the massive suitcase into his home office. That night, I pretended to be dead asleep. A little while later, Carter slipped out of bed and crept down the hall. The light under the office door flicked on. Following the faint sliver of light, I walked barefoot and pressed my ear against the wood. 2 I stood flat against the wall, barely daring to breathe. Skyler's breathy, teasing voice drifted through the crack. "You're so mean. What took you so long? I was suffocating in there." Carter chuckled. "You're the one who wanted to try something crazy. Well? Was it thrilling enough for you?" Skyler pouted. "It's only thrilling now that you're here." In my previous life, I had woken up for a glass of water, seen the light, and heard these exact murmurs. My mind had gone blank. I had shoved the door open to find them tangled together on the office rug. I had lost my mind, screaming and swinging at them. Carter kept telling me he could "explain" while slowly backing me toward the open window. Then, he suddenly grabbed me by the shoulders, spun me around, and pushed me out into the empty night. Afterward, Carter paid off a shady psychiatrist to forge a severe depression diagnosis, claiming my death was a tragic suicide. My fists clenched so hard they shook. The phantom agony of broken ribs and a crushed spine flared up again, making me tremble violently. Their whispered conversation continued. "You really know how to treat a girl," Skyler cooed. "Chloe is like a brick wall. You ask her to try anything fun and she acts like it's disgusting." "If I wasn't waiting on her trust fund, I would've dumped her years ago," Carter scoffed. "If you really just wanted the money, why not poison her? I saw on TikTok you can get stuff from overseas that doesn't show up in a toxicology report." "I've been slipping it to her for six months! That bitch hasn't even had a stomach ache. I probably bought fake shit." "Plus, I read online that coroners can test for that stuff now. It's too risky." Carter had been poisoning me for six months? My head whipped toward the kitchen where my daily "vitamins" sat on the counter. Carter had claimed they were custom-formulated anti-aging supplements from Europe. I hated taking pills and was terrified of unregulated supplements ruining my liver, so I had secretly been dumping them down the sink for months, just pretending to take them so he wouldn't be disappointed. Turns out, those were my daily doses of poison. Skyler's whining brought me back to reality. "So when do I get to be the official Mrs.? I'm not waiting forever, you know. I've got options." Carter laughed darkly. "Relax. I know a guy. I'm meeting him tomorrow morning to get a backdated depression diagnosis for Chloe." "And then what?" "Then what? Look at the windows in this place. The sills don't even reach your knees." "If you were standing by the window, and I gave you a little shove from behind... what do you think would happen?" The room went dead silent for a second, followed by their muffled, twisted laughter. Every hair on my arms stood on end. So, he didn't kill me in my past life just because I caught them. He had already planned to murder me. I had just interrupted his timeline, forcing him to do it before the paperwork was even ready. I silently crept back to bed, closed my eyes, and let my brain run at lightspeed. A long time later, Carter slipped back under the covers. Seeing me sound asleep, he let out a quiet, disdainful scoff. 3 Tomorrow morning, Carter was going to see that doctor. When he left, he would definitely take the suitcase with him. Now that I knew his entire plan, he would never get the chance to touch me. But what was I supposed to do? Hand him divorce papers? The sickening crunch of my body hitting the concrete echoed in my skull, giving me a splitting headache. No. That was too easy. I was not going to let them off the hook. Carter was exhausted from his "workout," and soon, his heavy snores filled the room. I checked my phone. 4:00 AM. Carter's appointment was at 7:30 AM. He had mentioned the doctor warned him not to be a minute late, or there'd be too many people at the clinic to fake the records safely. I slipped out of bed and quietly closed the bedroom door behind me. I went into my walk-in closet and dragged out piles of clothes and shoes, dumping them in the middle of the living room. I ripped the cushions off the couch and tossed them on the floor. Then I went to the kitchen. Trash, flour, rice, soy sauce, and every rotting vegetable in the crisper drawer got thrown into the pile. Finally, I walked past the office—completely ignoring the massive suitcase inside—and started yanking heavy books off the shelves, dumping them into the hallway. Looking at the absolute disaster zone, I went downstairs, hauled three bags of rancid garbage from the complex's dumpster, and brought them back to my apartment. I ripped them open and scattered the wet, stinking mess everywhere. A vile, eye-watering stench filled the apartment. When the stage was set, I put on a face mask and sat right in the middle of the filth. At 6:30 AM, the bedroom door opened. Carter stumbled out, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He froze, his jaw dropping at the apocalyptic state of the living room. "Chloe! What the fuck are you doing?!" "Jesus Christ, it smells like a sewer! Did you take a bath in the dumpster?" I wiped fake sweat from my forehead. "I woke up early and couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd do some spring cleaning." "I was trying to drag the trash bags to the door, but they ripped and got everywhere! Honey, it's summer, the trash goes bad so fast..." Carter's face contorted in rage. He looked from the office door to the front door. The pathway was entirely barricaded by mounds of garbage, clothes, and books. The only way to get the suitcase out would be to carry it. But over the debris, he'd have to lift a suitcase weighing well over a hundred pounds at chest height just to navigate the mess. He physically couldn't do it. Carter started panicking. "You ruined the whole house! How am I supposed to get my luggage out of here?!" I blinked innocently. "You need to take that out today? I had no idea!" "Babe, why don't you help me clean this up? We can definitely have a path cleared by noon." Carter checked his watch, his face flushed with panicked fury. "I don't have time! I have to leave at seven, I literally have ten minutes!" I nodded understandingly. "Okay, go do your thing. I'll have it cleaned up by the time you get back." "Actually, why don't you call a junk removal service for me? If they send a couple of guys, we can clear this out in no time." Carter grimaced, pulling out his phone. "Yeah, hi. Oakridge Estates, Building 10, Apartment 1002. I need an emergency junk removal crew. Get here as fast as you can." I tilted my head, looking at him sweetly. "Are you sure? Do you want to check if there's anything in the pile you want to keep?" Carter screamed in frustration. "It smells like literal shit! Have them take everything! Throw it all out!" I smiled softly behind my mask. That was exactly what I needed to hear. 4 Carter threw open the front door, pinching his nose. "Acting like a total psycho at six in the morning. You ruined my whole day!" Ruined your day? Honey, the show hasn't even started. The door slammed shut. I took off my gloves and mask and stood up from the trash pile. I walked over to the office door, leaned against the frame, and stared dead at the oversized suitcase. A faint, rhythmic snoring was coming from inside the zipper. In my past life, as I was shoved out the window, Skyler had popped her head out of the suitcase and waved at me. "Bye-bye, old lady~" Well, Skyler. You probably didn't expect that today, it's just you and me. The doorbell rang. Two burly guys from Apex Junk Removal stood in the doorway, staring in shock at the chaos. "Is this... all going to the dump?" I nodded. "My husband said he doesn't want any of it. Take it all away." The workers made several trips. Slowly, the path from the office to the front door was cleared. I walked into the office and pulled up the handle of the suitcase. Skyler's muffled voice drifted up. "Babe? Are we finally leaving?" I just went, "Shhh," and she immediately shut up, thinking I was Carter. I dragged the heavy suitcase into the elevator and wheeled it right up to the massive garbage compactor truck parked out front. The truck was blasting its obnoxious corporate jingle: "Got junk? Call Apex! We crush your problems into dust!" One of the workers came out with the last load of trash. He eyed the shiny, expensive-looking suitcase in my hands. "Hey ma'am, that's a really nice bag. You throwing that out too?" I nodded solemnly. "It's full of biohazards. You guys need to be really careful not to get exposed. Just throw it straight into the incinerator." "And whatever you do, don't open it. My husband said the chemicals inside react to sunlight and release toxic gas." The worker's eyes widened. He nodded, grabbed his partner, and together they hoisted the heavy suitcase into the back of the compactor. As the suitcase tumbled into the deep steel belly of the truck, I thought I heard a muffled, high-pitched scream. But maybe it was just the screeching brakes of a passing car. I couldn't be sure. I went back upstairs, mopped the floors until they shined, and used a burner phone with a VPN to contact a black-hat PR firm on the dark web. With everything set in motion, I curled up on the freshly cleaned sofa with a novel. At 9:00 AM, the smart lock chimed. Carter strode in, practically humming a tune, a massive smirk on his face. I glanced up over my book. "You're in a good mood." Carter gave me a dark, knowing smile. "Just about to get rid of a massive headache. Of course I'm happy." "Really? Well, congratulations." I looked back down and flipped a page. Carter practically skipped toward the office. The moment he pushed the door open, his humming stopped dead. He tore through the office like a madman, checking under the desk, behind the chair. "Chloe! Where's my suitcase?! What did you do with it?!" He ran out to the living room, sweat beading on his forehead. I picked up my coffee and took a slow, deliberate sip. "Oh, you mean the one with the toxic waste?" "I had the Apex guys take it. Complete, eco-friendly disposal."
